Moving…

August 30, 2016 By Cari@MakingOurMemories Leave a Comment

I really wanted a backyard!  Living in a condo for the past 7.5 years, I have been REALLY missing outdoor space.

Our condo had a very nice deck and we shared a pool with all of our neighbors, but it wasn’t the same as having a backyard.  So when an (off-market) opportunity came up and we fell in love with the house, the neighborhood, the backyard; we took it!

The excitement turned into an overwhelming feeling – now I have to pack up everything that we have accumulated.  Things from my bridal shower, our wedding, births of two kids, numerous holidays (Christmas, Easter, Birthdays, etc)  have all been nicely stored in closets, under beds, storage room, etc.; now had to be boxed up AND then all unpacked, organized and put away at our new place — UGH!!!!!

Many, many weeks later, I am now down to only about 4 boxes that need to be unpacked and organized. Phew!  I get exhausted just thinking about it.

BUT! We are SO enjoying our new house, new neighborhood, new space – that I can NOW finally say, “It wasn’t that bad” and “It is worth it!”.

After this summer of packing and unpacking and living out of a suitcase for about a month, I can confidently say, even if we hit the lotto, I am NOT moving again:)

Daisy Girl Scouts – Kaper Chart

January 8, 2016 By Cari@MakingOurMemories Leave a Comment

I have two daughters.  My oldest is in Kindergarten and this year I volunteered to become her Daisy Girl Scout Leader.  To be fair, I will likely repeat and do this again for my youngest when she is in Kindergarten.

This year I have spent many hours searching the internet for ideas and crafts before each of our Daisy Meetings.  One of my goals in 2016 is to document these ideas and crafts so that my second time around as a Daisy Leader will be seamless and much less time consuming.

I started with our Investiture Ceremony and now I want to share our Kaper (or job) Chart that I made for our troop.

I found MDF wood pieces at Joann Fabrics in the shape of a flower (similar to this) and came up with the following as a result.

KaperChart2

The flower pots are hand cut from black scrapbook paper and glued onto an Elmer’s Display Board (just three sides, the top is open) that I had painted GS Daisy Blue.

I placed popsicle sticks (one for each girl) into the pots and added one side of Velcro to the stick the other side on the back of each of the flowers (which I painted white).  I wrote each of the girl’s names on the flowers — I was going to have them do this, but unfortunately the flowers are just too small for their print.

Lastly, I added “troop” and our numbers – I cut this out of white scrapbook paper.

The girls LOVE to see which job they have each week.  I keep track of which job each girl does and try to rotate them around.  I move the flowers around and leave the sticks in the pots.

If I had to this again, I would also add a “garden” along the bottom because inevitably each week that we meet, someone is absent!

Troop Beverly Hills

December 30, 2015 By Cari@MakingOurMemories 1 Comment

Over the summer, I signed up Big Sister for Girl Scouts.  A few weeks went by and I got an email asking for troop leader volunteers.  Extra time with my little love and her friends?  Why not give it a try?

If only I knew how much time this commitment would suck out of me?!?!?  AHH – but when I see all those little happy faces it makes it worth it:)

The Girls

In early November we held an Investiture Ceremony at the Elementary School to welcome the girls into Girl Scouts.  I think they all had a great time!

I searched all over the internet for ideas!  We went with a fairly simple “script” (similar to here) and decided to serve cupcakes and water after the ceremony.

I pinned each of the girls.

I made each girl their own Daisy Hair Bow and they also each got flowers, a balloon and a certificate.

Big Sister is so happy that I get to come to school and do this with her.  It makes up for the lack of sleep:)
